On June 26, 2026, near the Glory Days restaurant in Brooksville, Florida, Emmanuel Ayala allegedly rear-ended another vehicle, causing injuries to the occupants, then fled the scene. A traffic unit spotted his vehicle and tried to pull him over, but Ayala refused to exit the car and fled on foot into nearby brush along State Road 50. Deputies established a perimeter using the Sheriff's Office Drone Unit and K-9 Unit.
