Car Crash Hobart Indiana in Hobart, Indiana: A 93-year-old Gary man, identified by the Lake County Coroner's Office as Howard Thompkins, was killed in a vehicle-train collision in Hobart on Wednesday morning around 8:50 a.m. Police said a 2004 Dodge Caravan traveling eastbound on 3rd Street approached the railroad tracks between Colorado and California streets and disregarded the crossing gates, lights, and train horn before colliding with a train. The vehicle was dragged approximately 400 feet while engulfed in flames, and the Hobart Fire Department extinguished the fire and found one deceased individual inside. The cause of death was ruled an accident and remains under investigation.
