Car Crash San Diego California in San Diego, California: A wrong-way driver in a black Mercedes SUV entered westbound Interstate 8 from Mission Gorge Road near College Avenue in San Diego on the morning of July 1, 2026, causing a head-on crash with a Honda. The elderly driver of the Honda and a passenger of the Mercedes were transported to local hospitals with major injuries. The Mercedes driver fled on foot across the College Avenue on-ramp but was detained and also taken to a hospital with major injuries. The California Highway Patrol closed the College Avenue on-ramp for several hours during the investigation.
