Maine man drowns after kayak tips in Sabattus Pond near Mar…

Drowning Androscoggin Maine in Androscoggin, Maine: Mateo Franco Cifuentes, 29, of Biddeford, Maine, drowned on Wednesday night in Sabattus Pond when his kayak tipped over near Martin's Point Park in Androscoggin County. He was with a group of friends paddling near the shore and went into the water just before 8:00 p.m. Cifuentes did not know how to swim and was not wearing a life jacket; friends in another kayak tried unsuccessfully to bring him to shore. A bystander later recovered his body, and EMS personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene after being unable to resuscitate him.
