A 2023 Toyota Rav 4 traveling on Old Shelby Road crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2017 Toyota Sienna van. The driver of the Rav 4, a Hickory resident, was airlifted to CMC Main in Charlotte with serious injuries. The driver of the Sienna, a Conover resident, and three child passengers were transported to UNC Health Blue Ridge with minor injuries, though one child was later airlifted to Levine Children's Hospital with more serious injuries.
