Toxic Exposure Longview Washington in Longview, Washington: A May 26 white liquor release from a 900,000-gallon storage tank at the Nippon Dynawave pulp and paper mill in Longview, Washington killed 11 employees and injured eight other people, shutting down most normal operations at the site. State emergency crews flushed fresh water through ditches from the Cowlitz River and from fire hydrants in Longview's Highlands neighborhood to push impacted water away from the aquifer and lower pH levels.
