Car Crash New Canaan Connecticut in New Canaan, Connecticut: On June 16, a car drove through the perimeter fence and into the Steve Benko Pool at Waveny Park in New Canaan, Connecticut, around 10:38 a.m. The driver, the sole occupant, was attempting to park when he accelerated into the pool. The pool was closed to the public at the time, and no bystanders were injured. Lifeguards Katie Quill and Michael D'Urso pulled the driver from the water; the driver reported no injuries but was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. The pool was closed for a week to drain and remove gasoline, oil, and other fluids before reopening June 23, the same day the lifeguards were honored by the Board of Selectmen.
