Assault Brentwood New York in Brentwood, New York: A 42-year-old Honduran national, Darli Mejia, was indicted on kidnapping, strangulation, and other felony charges after prosecutors say he abducted his former girlfriend in Brentwood, New York, on June 20, 2026. Authorities allege Mejia drove the victim away from her apartment, took her cellphone, and took her to his Brentwood residence, where he strangled her with one hand and covered her nose and mouth until she lost consciousness. The victim regained consciousness after Mejia allegedly performed chest compressions, then locked herself in a bathroom and called 911. Suffolk County Police arrested Mejia at the residence and transported the victim to South Shore University Hospital for treatment.
