Ambulance driver charged in fatal hit-and-run of pedestrian…

Pedestrian Hit New York Today in New York: Michael Gontar, 42, was charged on Wednesday, nearly three months after he allegedly struck 44-year-old Cherry Cayetano Sobel with an ambulance near Ocean Avenue and Avenue O in Midwood. Surveillance video shows the ambulance turning onto Ocean Avenue as Sobel stepped into the street to cross. Paramedics transported Sobel to Maimonides Medical Center, the same hospital the ambulance originated from. Gontar faces charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
