Hit And Run New York Today in New York: Michael Gontar, 42, was charged on Wednesday, nearly three months after he allegedly struck 44-year-old Cherry Cayetano Sobel near Ocean Avenue and Avenue O in Midwood while driving an ambulance. The ambulance turned onto Ocean Avenue at the same moment Sobel stepped into the street to cross. Paramedics transported Sobel to Maimonides Medical Center, the same hospital the ambulance originated from. Gontar faces charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
