Workplace Accident Michigan Today in Southeast Michigan Investigators, Michigan: Three separate trench collapse incidents occurred at construction sites in Southeast Michigan during the week of June 30 to July 1, 2026. A 23-year-old man was killed when a trench collapsed behind a business in Handy Township while workers were placing underground tanks. Earlier the same day in Orion Township, a 25-year-old Clarkston man named Davin was trapped below the waist in a trench box during a sanitary sewer installation and suffered lower-body injuries. The day before, a 35-year-old man was buried when a trench wall collapsed during a septic tank field-tile installation in Oxford Township. The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating all three collapses.
