Assault Elgin Texas in Elgin, Texas: Elgin police responded to a welfare check on June 30 around 12:44 p.m. in the 100 block of Anderson St. and found 55-year-old Sonya Martinez Guerra dead. After an investigation, 33-year-old Christopher Vargas was identified as a person of interest and is currently in the Hays County Jail on unrelated charges. The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office has filed charges related to a crime connected to the investigation that occurred outside Elgin's city limits, and Elgin police said additional charges within their jurisdiction are expected.
