Car Crash Schuylkill Pennsylvania in Chester, Pennsylvania: Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael E. Pahira, a 20-year veteran, was killed on Wednesday morning while conducting a commercial vehicle safety inspection near mile marker 119 on Interstate 81 south in Cass Township, Schuylkill County. Another southbound tractor-trailer left the roadway, entered the shoulder, and struck Pahira's marked inspection vehicle, pushing it into the tractor-trailer he was inspecting. Pahira, who was standing near the driver's door of the inspected truck, was struck and trapped beneath one of the vehicles; the striking truck caught fire while he remained trapped. Other troopers and emergency responders pulled him from the burning vehicle and performed life-saving efforts for approximately 90 minutes, but he never regained consciousness and later died at the hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer that struck the inspection scene was transported to a hospital.
