Novice climber survives 1,500-foot fall on Mount Shasta
Fall Injury California Today in California: A 31-year-old female novice climber fell approximately 1,500 vertical feet while ascending the Left of Heart variation of the Avalanche Gulch route on Mount Shasta on Sunday afternoon, dropping from around 13,000 feet to roughly 11,500 feet. She was found alert with a suspected fractured right ankle and additional injuries. A California Highway Patrol helicopter extracted her from Lake Helen and flew her to Mercy Medical Center Mount Shasta for further care.
