Iowa Street residents north of Newton seek second access ro…
Car Crash Jasper Iowa in Jasper, Iowa: Residents of Iowa Street, north of Newton in Jasper County, Iowa, raised concerns at a Jasper County Board of Supervisors meeting about their single-road access after a car-train accident shortly before 5 p.m. on Monday blocked the access road for over two hours. Homeowner Mindy Adkinson told supervisors that residents were stranded at the railroad crossing for two hours and twenty-one minutes in the heat and unable to reach their homes. The supervisors had previously closed a deteriorating 90-year-old bridge over the North Skunk River, eliminating the alternate route, and said a replacement bridge built to current standards would cost $2.5 million.
