Drowning Alabama Today in Alabama: Israel Montecino-Navarro, 35, drowned after jumping into the Cahaba River in Alabama to rescue several of his children who had fallen into the water around 4:30 p.m. local time. The family had been sitting on rocks when family members, including children, were pulled by a current into deep water. Montecino-Navarro, who could not swim, became submerged and his body was recovered about two hours later. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Irondale Fire Department responded to the incident.
