California pilot killed in Alaska plane crash near Cordova
Car Crash Fatal Alaska in fatal, Alaska: A 51-year-old California resident, Michael Grimes, was identified by Alaska State Troopers as the pilot killed in a mid-June plane crash in Alaska. Grimes was flying a Piper Pacer between Yakutat and Fairbanks when the aircraft was reported overdue on the evening of June 18. An Alaska Air National Guard helicopter crew located the wreckage the next day about 40 miles southeast of Cordova in a mountainous area near Kanak Island, and Grimes was found dead inside. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
