Suspect killed in shootout with deputies during I-85 traffi…

Shooting Georgia Today in Georgia: On June 29, 2026, at 1:22 PM, Coweta County Sheriff's Office deputies conducted a traffic stop on I-85 South at mile marker 34 for a traffic violation. During a roadside interview, the suspect ran back to his vehicle, and deputies attempted to remove him and tase him without effect. The suspect retrieved a firearm and fired multiple shots at the deputies, who returned fire. EMS pronounced the suspect dead at the scene; no deputies were injured. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations was notified and will conduct an independent investigation.
