Boating Accident Merritt Island Florida in Merritt Island, Florida: A tour boat captain reported that another boat sped through a pod of dolphins in the barge canal between the Indian River and Banana River near Merritt Island on Monday, injuring a newborn calf. The captain said the smallest calf had a large flap of flesh hanging on the left side of its dorsal fin after the boat passed. SeaWorld's partners at the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute searched for the injured calf on Tuesday but had not seen it since the reported strike. The organization asked anyone who sees the dolphin to contact FWC's Wildlife Alert Hotline.
