Tyler Robinson is charged with murder in the killing, and prosecutors have said they intend to seek the death penalty if he is convicted. A preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin July 6, 2026, in Utah, where prosecutors plan to present forensic analyses, surveillance video, witness recordings, autopsy findings, and alleged messages from Robinson admitting to the crime. Authorities said DNA consistent with Robinson's was found on the trigger of the rifle, the fired cartridge casing, two unfired cartridges, and a towel used to wrap the rifle.
