Car Crash Cordova Alaska in Cordova, Alaska: A 51-year-old California resident, pilot Michael Grimes, was killed in a Piper Pacer aircraft crash in a mountainous area near Kanak Island, approximately 40 miles southeast of Cordova, Alaska. The aircraft, believed to be traveling between Yakutat and Fairbanks with only the pilot on board, was reported overdue on June 18, prompting a search by Alaska State Troopers, the Alaska Air National Guard, and Alaska Wildlife Troopers. A National Guard helicopter crew located the wreckage on June 19 and found Grimes deceased inside.
