Car Crash California Today in California: Mario Joseph Bickham, 36, of Hawthorne, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder after a June 2025 crash on the 405 Freeway near the Getty Center that killed LAPD Sgt. Shiou Lih Deng, a 26-year department veteran, and stranded motorist Jesús Garcia. Court documents allege Bickham was driving 112.5 mph in the HOV lane at 2:04 a.m. when he struck a disabled pickup truck and the patrol car that had stopped to assist it. Both Deng, 53, and Garcia died at the scene, while Bickham sustained serious injuries. Prosecutors are seeking no bail or $4 million bail ahead of his arraignment.
