Hit And Run Lantana Florida in Lantana, Florida: A 2017 Jeep Wrangler driven by Charles Velbis, 34, of Lake Worth Beach, struck a Chevy truck north of the intersection of Dixie Highway and Ocean Avenue in Lantana, then fled southbound at high speed and rear-ended a 2023 Mazda CX5 stopped at a red light. The force of the collision spun the Mazda nearly 180 degrees and sheared off the back half of the vehicle. Jose Bedoya, 67, of Boca Raton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two victims were airlifted by Trauma Hawk helicopter to a hospital. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is investigating and Velbis faces potential DUI manslaughter and leaving-the-scene charges.
