California pilot killed in Alaska plane crash near Cordova
Aircraft Fatal Alaska in fatal, Alaska: A 51-year-old California resident, Michael Grimes, was killed when the Piper Pacer he was flying between Yakutat and Fairbanks crashed in a mountainous area near Kanak Island, about 40 miles southeast of Cordova. The plane was reported overdue on the evening of June 18, and an Alaska Air National Guard helicopter crew located the wreckage the next day. Grimes was found dead in the wreckage. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
