Drowning Gardendale Alabama in Gardendale, Alabama: Israel Manual Montecino-Navarro, 35, drowned Sunday afternoon while trying to save several of his children from the Cahaba River at the Cahaba Blue Way River Canoe Launch in Jefferson County, Alabama. Authorities say the children had become submerged in deep water while wading, and the father, who reportedly did not know how to swim, also became submerged and never resurfaced. Irondale Fire and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office recovered his body from the water using drone teams.
