Car Crash California City California in California City, California: On June 18, 2026, at about 6:07 p.m., California City Police Department officers responded to a report of a drowning in progress at the lake in Central Park in California City. A 12-year-old male had jumped into the lake while running from dogs and did not resurface; he was transported to Adventist Health in Tehachapi and then to Children's Hospital, where he died. A female juvenile suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at Antelope Valley Hospital. Investigators identified Kenneth Dobbins, 68, as the owner of the three dogs involved; an arrest warrant was issued for involuntary manslaughter and negligent owner of a mischievous animal causing serious bodily injury and/or death, but Dobbins had fled before officers attempted to serve the warrant on June 23, 2026.
