A 28-year-old man driving a gray sedan was traveling east on 47th Street when he lost control and struck a fire hydrant in the 4700-block of South State Street. Two passengers, a 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Four other passengers were transported to hospitals, and the uninjured driver was taken into custody with charges pending.
