Vehicle Fire Vail Colorado in Vail, Colorado: Three wildland firefighters assigned to the U.S. Department of the Interior's Rifle Helitack crew died while engaged in initial attack operations on the Knowles Fire at the Colorado-Utah border. Two additional firefighters were injured and were receiving medical care. The Snyder Fire, which merged with the Jones, Knowles, and Gore fires, was estimated at 28,000 acres. The deaths occurred Saturday and were announced Monday by federal authorities.
