Car Crash Roanoke Rapids North Carolina in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina: Two teenagers from Whiteville in Columbus County, Mariah Thompson, 15, and Patrick Shane Faircloth, 19, were fatally shot early Monday morning at the intersection of Vance and 11th West streets in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. A Roanoke Rapids officer nearby spotted a car fleeing the scene and police chased and caught the driver, a 19-year-old man from Whiteville, who was later interviewed and released. Separately, Columbus County Sheriff's Deputy Damien Bost, 30, of Nakina, was killed on Thursday when a tractor-trailer in the westbound lane struck his cruiser along a U.S. 74 construction zone near Hallsboro Road; a construction worker was also injured in the crash.
