The firefighters deployed emergency shelters during a burnover — when fire closes off all escape routes — on Saturday in Mesa County, Colorado. The fire began as the Snyder Mesa Fire in Grand County, Utah, before spreading into Colorado and merging with the Jones and Knowles fires, burning an estimated 28,000 acres at 0% containment. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis declared a disaster emergency response and authorized the Colorado National Guard to support firefighting efforts.
