Officials said five federal firefighters were overtaken by the fire, forcing them to deploy their shelters as a last-resort tactic. The two surviving firefighters were taken to the hospital for burn injuries. The fires were burning on the Colorado side of the Utah-Colorado border near the merged Snyder Mesa and Jones Canyon fires.
