Boating Accident Old Saybrook Connecticut in Old Saybrook, Connecticut: A boat carrying nine people slammed into a breakwater jetty at the mouth of the Connecticut River in Old Saybrook on Sept. 2, 2024, during Labor Day weekend. Three men — Ian Duchemin, 25, of Oakdale; Ryan Britagna, 24, of Waterford; and Christopher Hallahan, 34, of Westbrook — were killed, with two bodies recovered after days of searching. The operator, Clayton Hackling of Lyme, was charged with manslaughter and is now being sued by the estates of two of the victims on claims he was drunk and operating the boat recklessly. Six others, including Hackling, were injured.
