Fall Injury Texas Today in Texas: Donald Alexander was cutting grass in Brazoria County last summer when his riding lawn mower clipped the trunk of an oak tree damaged by Hurricane Beryl, severely injuring his leg and nearly severing his foot. Paramedics and emergency physicians provided quick treatment, and Alexander was flown to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center, where the UT Physicians trauma team performed a series of complex surgeries to save his foot. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Patrick Kellam repaired the bone, and additional surgeries were performed to cover it with muscle and skin. Alexander lost 45 pounds during recovery and continues to face some risk of infection and complications.
