Deputy Damien Draper Bost, 30, died at an area hospital following the Thursday collision when a tractor-trailer driven by David McPherson, 33, failed to reduce speed and struck Bost's marked patrol vehicle from behind. McPherson's semitruck then struck a bumper truck ahead of the patrol vehicle, injuring its 24-year-old operator, who was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries. The tractor-trailer crossed the median and caught fire; McPherson was not injured and was arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, reckless driving, and failure to reduce speed.
