Update: Driver Charged in Fatal Pedestrian Crash Near Fair…

Pedestrian Hit Old Plains Virginia in Old Plains, Virginia: Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Crash Reconstruction Unit charged Shaza Edris, 20, of Fairfax, in connection with a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on December 23, 2025, on Fairfax County Parkway near Old Plains Road. Investigators determined Edris was actively using her cell phone when she struck pedestrian Jimmy Patterson, 50, of no fixed address, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. On June 25, 2026, Edris turned herself in and was charged with Felony Hit and Run Involving Death and Using a Handheld Personal Communications Device While Driving. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
