Dui Crash Elizabeth New Jersey in Elizabeth, New Jersey: Jorge Echeverri, 40, surrendered to the Elizabeth Police Department on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in connection with a crash that killed Michael Cosme, 51, of Elizabeth. Echeverri was driving a white Jeep Grand Cherokee along Elizabeth Avenue with one passenger when he crossed the double yellow line into oncoming traffic and struck Cosme's black Nissan Kicks head-on at approximately 11:45 p.m. Investigators determined Echeverri had been under the influence of alcohol and driving at a high rate of speed. He was charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter, second-degree vehicular homicide, third-degree strict liability vehicular homicide, and third-degree assault by auto.
