Sheehy sues Freedom Munitions over alleged ammo blast injury
Shooting Montana Today in Montana: Montana Senator Tim Sheehy sued Freedom Munitions, alleging that .308 rifle ammunition he purchased from the Idaho-based company exploded inside his rifle and injured him. The complaint states the blast broke apart the rifle and sent pieces into his hand and face, causing cuts and other injuries. The lawsuit alleges Freedom Munitions sold defective ammunition, failed to properly test or inspect it, and did not adequately warn users of the risk. The case was filed in Montana's Fourteenth Judicial District Court in Meagher County on January 14, 2026, and later appeared in federal court records in February 2026.
