Car Crash Benson North Carolina in Benson, North Carolina: A 49-year-old man died Friday morning after his northbound 2017 GMC Terrain crossed the centerline on U.S. 301 near the Interstate 40 overpass just north of Benson, N.C., and collided head-on with a southbound 2022 Western Star cement truck around 7:10 a.m., according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol. The cement truck left the roadway, struck a ditch, and became engulfed in flames. The driver of the GMC, Draper Leroy Scott, 49, of Lumberton, N.C., later died from his injuries. The driver of the cement truck, Raymond Miles, 43, of Leland, N.C., was transported to WakeMed with life-threatening injuries. Troopers said speed and alcohol were not believed to have contributed to the collision, and the Highway Patrol's Motor Carrier Enforcement Unit responded to inspect the commercial vehicle.
