Drowning California Today in California: On June 2, Mono County Search and Rescue was called to assist a rafter in distress on the Walker River near Sonora Junction; the rafter was found deceased before rescuers could arrive, with the fatality likely due to a packrafting accident. On June 9, Mono County SAR responded to a mutual aid request from Inyo County for a 77-year-old man in medical distress near Long Lake in Rock Creek; CPR was performed but the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
