Man honored after using truck to stop sliding plane near Ch…
Aircraft Chanute Kansas in Chanute, Kansas: In April 2026, a 2020 Cirrus SR22 aircraft attempted to land at Chanute Airport in Neosho County, Kansas, but due to cloud cover missed the approach and diverted to land in a field. The plane nosedived east of U.S. Highway 169, flipped back upright while sliding across the field, and continued over the highway before stopping in a hedge row. Hatten Gleue drove his truck across the field to block the still-moving plane and bring it to a stop, then helped the passenger down from the wing. Both the pilot and co-pilot survived with minor injuries, and the Kansas Highway Patrol later presented Gleue with the Honorary Trooper Award.
