Car Crash Illinois Today in Illinois: A two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Kishwaukee Valley Road and Deerpass Road in unincorporated Marengo on June 23, 2025. An 18-year-old Huntley man driving a 2016 Ford Transit Van northbound on Deerpass Road failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with a 2012 Audi Q5 driven eastbound on Kishwaukee Valley Road by Steven Kroll, 29, of Wonder Lake, who did not have a stop sign. The Audi struck a tree after the T-bone collision; Alan Kroll, 11, of Wonder Lake, a passenger in the Audi, was trapped and had to be extricated by Marengo Fire and Rescue before being transported by medical helicopter and later pronounced dead at the hospital. The Ford driver was cited for causing the crash and transported with minor injuries; Steven Kroll was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The family has filed two lawsuits against McHenry County and its Division of Transportation alleging failure to create a safe intersection.
