On June 15, 2026, a Vashon Trucking box truck struck and killed 76-year-old Maridee Bonadea as she biked on Southwest Wildwood Place near 47th Avenue Southwest in West Seattle; a witness told police she appeared to lose her balance while the truck passed her, bumped her bike against a parked car, fell into the street, and was run over by the truck's rear tires. On June 1, 2026, a Recology waste collection truck struck and killed 30-year-old Christian Salyer, a Thurgood Marshall Elementary School teacher, as he biked near East Yesler Way and 12th Avenue South. In December 2025, 38-year-old Allie Rodriguez was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while biking in Beacon Hill. Seattle police are investigating the June crashes.
