Drowning California Today in California: Two Catholic men, members of Opus Dei, drowned in June 2025 while attempting to rescue a friend in cold waters during a hiking trip in Northern California. The friend they were trying to save also drowned. The Carnegie Hero Fund Commission announced it will posthumously award Carnegie Medals to the two men for their rescue attempt.
