World Cup Watch Party Ends In Unthinkable Tragedy
Pedestrian Hit Newark New Jersey in Newark, New Jersey: A speeding New Jersey driver struck and killed two women in a Newark crosswalk before fleeing the scene. David J. Zapata-Vera, 26, surrendered to authorities on Tuesday after the Saturday night crash and was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, and two counts of endangering an injured victim. The victims, Maria Isabel DeLos Angeles, 61, and Mariana Elizabeth Valverde Beltran, 58, were walking home from a World Cup watch party when a red sedan sped through the intersection, struck them, and sent them airborne. Both women were rushed to University Hospital Newark, where they were pronounced dead.
