Aircraft Coldfoot Alaska in Coldfoot, Alaska: A Wright Air Service Cessna Caravan carrying nine passengers made a hard emergency landing in the Brooks Range shortly after taking off from Coldfoot, Alaska, on Monday. The pilot reported the engine began surging and making an unusual whiny or groaning noise within five to 10 minutes of departure while en route to Anaktuvuk Pass, and the aircraft could not maintain altitude. The pilot selected an off-airport landing site and suffered a minor injury; the passengers were not hurt. The NTSB is investigating the engine issue, and passengers were rescued by helicopter.
