Boating Accident Of Eveleth Minnesota in of Eveleth, Minnesota: Jeremy Johnson, 53, of Eveleth, co-owner of Whispering Winds Resort and a fishing guide, died following a two-boat collision near Manbeck Island in Beatty Township on Lake Vermilion on May 12, 2026. Johnson was driving a Ranger boat at a high rate of speed when it rounded the island and was unable to slow down or turn to avoid a collision with an anchored boat occupied by Daniel Erickson, 63, of Cook. Johnson entered the water during the crash and swam toward shore before being found unconscious; attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Autopsy results listed causes of death as underlying cardiac conditions, drowning, and hypothermia. All four individuals ended up in the water; Erickson was airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, Hoskins was taken to Essentia Health, and House was taken to Cook Hospital. Investigators determined alcohol or drug impairment was not a factor.
