After performing 'Three Times a Lady' at a piano, he left the stage and was met by paramedics backstage, then transported to the hospital in an ambulance. His band remained on stage for roughly 15 minutes before leaving, and about 40 minutes into the intermission his saxophonist informed the crowd the singer was unable to continue due to feeling unwell. The concert, the first of his joint tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, was ended approximately 45 minutes after the incident.
