Car Crash Alpine Texas in Alpine, Texas: On June 23 at 7:36 a.m., a GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Erik Alberto Hernandez of Monahans was traveling west on U.S. 67 near Alpine, Texas, when it crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe DPS patrol vehicle driven by Trooper Zachary Vasquez, 26, of Alpine. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene. Trooper Vasquez was seriously injured and had to be extricated from the overturned patrol vehicle by good Samaritans and other first responders who applied tourniquets and first aid. The K-9 inside the patrol vehicle was not injured, and the crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
