Deputies find body after traffic stop in Greenville County
Shooting South Carolina Today in South Carolina: On June 25, 2026, a Greenville County Sheriff's deputy on patrol heard gunfire near Saluda Dam Road in Greenville County and a 911 call reported gunshots in the same area. During a traffic stop, deputies discovered evidence linking a passenger in the vehicle to a nearby death. Detectives determined that 20-year-old James Emanuel Waiters III, a passenger in the stopped vehicle, shot and killed 23-year-old Joselito Billy Leopard Rivera following an altercation while they were riding together. Waiters was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime; the driver was not charged.
