Car Crash Bakersfield California in Bakersfield, California: A 28-year-old Bakersfield man was killed in a solo-vehicle crash on westbound Highway 58 east of General Beale Road that sparked the Star Fire, which burned 577 acres. The California Highway Patrol said the driver of a 2013 Hyundai Azera was traveling in excess of the posted speed limit, lost control, collided with a drainage ditch along the right shoulder, overturned while descending an embankment, and was ejected. The crash occurred on June 19, 2026, at around 4:30 p.m., and the resulting brush fire is 100% contained. CHP said it is unknown whether alcohol and/or drugs were factors in the crash.
